The Vietnamese calendar system is both practical and historically layered — it blends a modern weekday system (borrowed from Chinese, numbered rather than named), a traditional lunar calendar used for festivals and important dates, and the standard Western months. For everyday navigation of Vietnamese life, you need all three.

Days of the Week — Ngày trong Tuần

Vietnamese days are numbered, not named — a simpler and more logical system than the English names (which reference Norse gods and planets). Monday is "second day," Tuesday is "third day," and so on. Sunday breaks the pattern with its own special name.

Like the days, Vietnamese months are numbered. "Tháng" means month:

Vietnam's seasons differ dramatically between north and south. The north has four seasons; the south has essentially two — wet and dry.
